Foraminifera — definition & meaning
Word Type Definition Foraminifera n. pl. An extensive order of rhizopods which generally
have a chambered calcareous shell formed by several united zooids. Many
of them have perforated walls, whence the name. Some species are
covered with sand. See Rhizophoda.
