Zero conditional
Zero conditional: if + present simple + present simple
We use the zero conditional when the result will always happen.
If I drink a cup of coffee, I wake up.
1st conditional
First conditional
first conditional: if + present simple + will
We use the first conditional when we think it is possible that an action will happen in the future.
2nd conditional
Second conditional
second conditional: if + past simple, would/wouldn't + verb
We use the second conditional when we imagine an action in the present or future but we think it will probably not happen.
If I drank some a cup of coffee, I would wake up.
3rd conditional
Third conditional
third conditional: if + past perfect + would have (past participle)
We use the third conditional when we imagine an action didn't happen in the past.
If I had drunk some a cup of coffee, I would have woken up.
Mixed condition.
Mixed conditionals 3rd + 2nd type
mixed conditionals: if + had III form + would + infinitive
A mixed conditional is a combination of the second and third conditionals. We use it when something that happened in the past influences the present.
